Is Jason a good starting character in mkx?

New player here, I Don't know if talking about older games is allowed but is Jason a good starting place? I've been wanting to main pretty much any of the guest characters but is Jason slasher variant a good starting point?

Also, is mk1 on switch playable now? I heard it was horrible at launch
