New army lists vs old

Can I play The Lord of the Rings without using the exact Army list?In the new rule set or is that only for competition, bass gaims?And would anybody care if I used wars when I play The wicth king . I don't want to have to buy any more models.And I like the way that these play already.So i'm looking for a little insight into the discussion
