The DNR website says winter deer feeding isn't allowed in the LP, but I see multiple houses with feeders visible from road. Are these laws just not enforced?
We wanted to get a broadcast feeder to feed the wildlife in our back yard during the winter. We don't hunt, just like to see the animals. We did enough research to find a good high protein pellet that is good for everything from squirrels, birds, and raccoons to deer. I see it's not legal to feed deer in most of Michigan, even in the winter and when you're not hunting. There are two houses I drive by daily that have the same broadcast style feeders I was looking at buying right out in the yard. Seeing them is why I got the idea. As I went to order one I got a warning that based on my address it may not be legal to feed deer where I live.
Are these laws that just aren't enforced? The deer will eat the cracked corn corn out of our bird feeders. We can't exactly feed everything but deer. Any thoughts or experience with feeding animals in the winter without getting in trouble with the DNR?
