Has anyone else noticed that strangers will try to just take your phone out of your hand without asking?
I’ve never experienced this in any other city I’ve lived in. But if I’m at the register of a store and have a price match or reward/coupon on my phone for example (this happened yesterday), instead of simply looking at the price or scanning the coupon on my screen, the cashier will try to take my entire phone out of my hand and hold it during the transaction. This has happened probably 10-15 times in the last 2 years. It is so weird to me, and annoying. Has anyone else noticed this? I always say “I’ll hold it” but on several occasions they’ve literally yanked it out of my hand before I could react.
EDIT: thanks everyone! You all brought up some great reasons as to why this may be more common here and I value all the perspectives shared. Moving forward, I’m going to try and give people some more grace, but also try to better communicate with them when they reach for my phone that I’d prefer to hold onto it and we can instead discuss verbally what they need to see. Ultimately I just don’t want people touching my phone because of germs lol but I’m glad many others agreed that it is more common here in Miami.
