Officially done my degree
Just wanna say thank you to McMaster for the amazing 5 years I’ve spent here in my undergrad. Did my half of my grade 12 in covid and picked my degree off a whim cause a friend told me to since I was unsure on doing chemical engineering. I was good at math so my friend told me to be an actuary. I loved the career so I wrote my first actuarial exam in grade 12 summer and failed. I joined my actuarial society as an academics assistant in 2nd year. I was eager on joining the actuarial major but had a bad supp app and got into stats so I had to shadow the major and reapply. Had a bad interview and somehow how into the coop program for Honours Actuarial and Financial Math. My first ever co-op interview ended with the interviewers giving rude and snarky comments (I was in 2nd year). Watched my grades drop as I was applying for coop in 3rd year. Got lucky with a company but drove to London from Georgetown twice a week. Passed my first 2 actuarial exams and then struggled to get a summer coop for my 4th year summer. Got lowballed so hard by a company and still rejected even though I was told I was the best candidate they’ve seen. Failed real analysis cause I was too done from studying for my actuarial exam (which I passed) so I had to retake the course. By 4th year I was copresident of my society and things starting looking good only then. After spending a year being the president, I realized I’m not set out for this despite always wanting to be one. I’m on my 4th coop term and got my grades back for my last course (Real Analysis). Now that I’ve passed, I’m not looking back until the convocation. For those starting uni, you’ll meet ppl and people will come and go. Enjoy your time and make friends who’ll stick with you in this career. Your life and the career you pick won’t get easier, you just get better at handling it. Just know that it’s not a race, everyone’s doing it for themselves. Thank you McMaster it’s been a great 5 years of a journey🫶🏼🙌🏼
