Finally got my first lathe/mill
It’s a northern industrial multipurpose machine. I am well aware it is a pice of crap but for $100 I can’t complain. I’m at a take what I can get and work with what I got point in my life.
So aside from setting it on fire or using it as an anchor any ideas on how to improve the performance? So far I know I need a tool post for the lathe and somehow need to figure out how to take out all the play in everything considering none of the adjustments seem to stay adjusted. Also maybe an actual cross feed this vice thing is kind of pissing me off. Also a lot of the markings on the dials are worn off. My current project is making some custom speargun parts but I don’t want to subject my good pieces of stainless to be eaten by this thing.
The lathe “works” although I can’t center anything in the chuck even with the tail stock and center so i probably need a new center I think this one is bent. Also want to do some knurling but the rpm is too high. Someone did suggest make a hand crank on another post I made a while back. Might use that as my test project once I get this thing somewhat useable. I mean it cuts but I have absolutely no accuracy.
Anyway Im open to ideas and I’m already wanting to fix this thing with a sledgehammer but it took me about 2 years to find a lathe here or anyone willing to sell theirs anyway. Unfortunately now I know why they were selling this one. Anyway I will keep telling myself $100 was worth it🥲
