Workload Management Tool
I’m a department manager and project manager.
I am struggling to find a tool that allows us department managers to see the workload of each engineer based on the project deadlines they are assigned to.
Im looking for a tool where each project PM can create a project, add members and assign deadlines to specific engineers assigned to the project with estimated hours per deadlines.
Then this tool allows the Department Managers to pull the deadlines and hours estimated for each employee of the department to see if they are overloaded or free.
I understand that this is all dependent to how good the PMs input the info but is there a tool like that?
Ive seen a bunch that say they do this, but its mostly deadlines with no estimated hours.
The hours are key. One thing is to have 5 deadlines on a week but each one takes 1 hour than having one deadline for a new project that requires you to do it in 16 hours.
I want to see if PMs are expecting my engineers to work an x amount of hours so that i can tell who is burning and crashing.
Otherwise i am sitting down with each one on Mondays and going deadline per deadline.
EDIT 1: Not looking to do CA, Invoicing, or creating new project numbers. Just a way of a department manager to be able to see how many hours his or hers department employees are scheduled for work in a range of days or weeks.
EDIT 2: I understand that every software is as good as the people use it but we are not a lot of PMs and want to at least try something basic.
UPDATE: Thank you all for the input. This community is great. I will provide an update of my findings soon. But for now here are some of the suggestions. Deltek Vision, Factor, Asana, BST, Smartsheet, Clickup, Float.
