So, does Shreveport only really exist to serve as a sinful outlet for East Texans?
I know it's a port city, its literally in the name, but almost all cities on rivers and lakes are considered "port" cities and have boat shipping.
So, someone from Houston or Galveston is better off going to Lake Charles if they want to gamble away their life savings? Meanwhile, if you are from Dallas, Longview, or Marshall, you just come to Shreveport to the Casinos? (Casinos are BANNED in Texas, the only thing they have is gas station slot machines)
Think about it. There are almost no good paying jobs in Shreveport, I am from there. I know. No Unions. Everything is a service job where you either make minimum wage or manage the place or own it. Further south in Louisiana all you have is farm towns, Alexandria, and Lafayette. Even New Orleans feels dead to me, and I have been there twice. Once for Christmas, and one time for a football game (My HS went to state play offs in New Orleans) Perhaps I should only go to New Orleans during Mardi Gras season? Because Shreveport's Mardi Gras sucks.
It seems the economy in Shreveport is mostly based on gambling. Most of the people coming to gamble are from Arkansas or Texas because the local residents do not have a lot of good paying jobs to spend for gambling money. There's a Casino in Broken Bow/Idabel, Oklahoma that Northeastern Texans can use though.
TLDR: My home city in my home state has its economy set up to parasite off Eastern Texans and Southern Arkansas residents because Casinos are banned in those states. No wonder its economy cannot get off the ground, and it won't grow like New Orleans.
