45-70 is significantly less recoil than 12 gauge slug
I just purchased the Miroku Winchester 1886 at local store, brand new condition. Took it to the range and tried, and it just recoiled about the same as 44 mag from my Henry. The ammo was federal power-shok 300 grain 45-70.
I did shoot some 12 gauge slug with my mossberg 590. And it just like heavy hammer hitting on my shoulder. The 45-70 is way more lighter like a fist hitting at moderate level.
I searched online and it said the 45-70 hits about the same as 12 gauge slug. Maybe I will try some 400 grain next time to see.
By the way, any iron sight recommend for 45-70? I shoot at 50 yards with buckhorn sight and it was either too high or too low. 45-70 is hard to zero within 100 yards.
