Laptop Repaste Help
Hello my legion friends. I recently got a used Legion 5 Pro Ryzen 7 5800H RTX 3070. As far as I know, it has been opened before for “regular cleaning and general maintenance”.
I have noticed my temperatures are worse than basically everyone else with the same laptop. While playing Apex Legends, I notice my GPU hovering around low 70s and CPU (max performance state 99%, so clocks never go beyond 3175 MHz) hovering in the high 70s to occasionally low 80s.
I am looking to repaste and from all the research, it looks like PTM 7950 is my only reasonable choice. Although I have read some people claim it loses performance after 3-4 months. Some claim Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut is a better choice. So I am confused and need guidance. If any of you has applied PTM 7950 on your laptop, please do share your thermal performance before and after, and how it has been over time.
Also, I am pretty sure I will have to put new thermal pads too. But I can’t seem to find a definitive answer for what thickness pads I need. Please share that too.
EDIT: I understand the temps look fine but the fans are more than just audible, GPU is locked at 1500MHz using MSI Afterburner and CPU limited to 99% processor performance state in the power plan (essentially disabling tubro boost).
If I let the components run as they do just out of the box, even on quiet mode (CPU is restricted to 25W I’m pretty sure sure and the GPU at 115W), I still hit 90+ on the CPU and 80+ on the GPU…
