MOJ Criminal Check won't go through because of my name, what can I do?

I'm an international student in NZ. I have a normal name (let's say Alpha Beta). This name on my Indian passport is written as First name, and surname Field is empty. When I got a licence last year I was told surname is required everywhere so they put "Alpha Beta" in surname with no first name. Now I submitted a MOJ Criminal Check which is a must have for employment, and again in the online form surname was mandatory so I wrote my name there and attached my passport. Is it true that everyone MUST have a surname in NZ? Will it go through if I attach my NZ licence instead of passport?
