VISA and DS2019 212(e) disrepancy

Hi all,

In the process of applying for an H1B visa, my lawyer noticed that my DS2019 says I am subject to 212(e) home residency due to government financing.

I was in shock because I didn't receive any funding from my home country. In the US, I received an stipend but nothing like a Fullbright. I double checked with a friend who also came to the US as a visiting scholar, and he said we are not subject.

Today, I noticed that my VISA stamp in my passport also says NOT SUBJECT TO 212(e). Could it be that the consul made a mistake while filling my form? Planning to request and advisory opinion, but would also appreciate any input on this. Thanks!
