is bus travel worth it- Rome

i’ll be in rome for my visit and most of the places i’m going to are not that far of a walk, but there are a few places that are a good hour walk away and i’d feel safer using some type of transportation. i have the uber app but the busses seem like a better option money wise but i have no idea how to use them. I’ve never rode a bus before so the thought of navigating different bus routes to get to my destination has me all anxious. How do people know if the bus is going in the right direction/ stop, and how do they know that the route the bus is taking is the right one?
