Ongoing ICCU Failures with My 2022 #Ioniq5 – 3 Breakdowns, Poor Customer Service, and No Resolution

I’ve been facing serious issues with my 2022 #Ioniq5, particularly with the ICCU (In-Car Charging Control Unit), which has caused my car to break down three times in two years, leaving me stranded in unsafe situations. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this, Hyundai’s response has been disappointing and frustrating.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happened so far:

1️⃣ January 2023: My car broke down while charging in New Jersey. Hyundai refused to tow it to a local dealer, forcing me to arrange towing to another Hyundai dealership. It took 26 days for repairs, and although I eventually got a loaner car, I had to pay for rental and Uber costs, which were reimbursed after significant delays.

2️⃣ October 2023: My car stopped at home due to a dead 12V battery caused by another ICCU failure. It was towed to a local Hyundai dealership, where repairs took 10 days.

3️⃣ December 2024: My car stalled in the middle of the road in freezing temperatures, creating a dangerous situation. I waited 9 hours for Hyundai Roadside Assistance to tow my car to a local dealership. The dealership had no updates, and I had to arrange a rental car on my own without any clear information on reimbursement.

Current Situation (January 2025):
Last Thursday, I was given a loaner car, but Hyundai is still waiting on a new ICCU, which just arrived today. They hope to finish the repair by the end of this week, but since the ICCU is a larger part, they said it won’t be ready until at least Tuesday. If it’s done by Friday, I’ll have been without my car for almost 4 weeks.

Customer Service Frustration:
I spoke with my case manager about this ongoing issue, and after explaining the recurring failures, I was told that the ICCU is “definitely defective.” I requested a buyback because of the repeated breakdowns, but my case manager said he could only help until the car was returned to me and that he couldn’t escalate the issue any further. When I asked to speak to someone higher up, I was told that my case manager was the highest person handling this situation, and no one would be able to assist further.

Rental Reimbursement Issues:
Additionally, I incurred rental costs while waiting for the loaner car, but Hyundai won’t reimburse me because they claim rentals are not covered under the warranty. This is despite the fact that the issues were caused by a defective part that Hyundai is aware of.

If these breakdowns were caused by an accident I made, I wouldn’t be complaining. But these breakdowns were all caused by a defective car Hyundai sold me, and it’s happened THREE times in less than three years. This is clearly an issue with the car itself, not me driving it irresponsibly.

I’ve now been dealing with this situation for months, and Hyundai’s customer service has been less than helpful. They continue to avoid escalating the issue and refuse to reimburse the expenses I’ve incurred due to their defective vehicle.

Has anyone else had similar issues with the 2022 #Ioniq5 or ICCU failures? What did you do to get Hyundai to take this seriously? I’m considering taking legal action if this doesn’t get resolved soon.
