Reverse-Engineering the Talamasca's Plan (Big Book Spoilers)
I am reposting it because when I tried to tag the spoilers I did something wrong and the post got deleted xD.
Foreword: This is just a fun intellectual exercise. Also, for this post, I am going to take what happen in the show as fact, and for what hasn't happen yet I am going to use information from the books. There will be very big spoilers regarding The Talamasca and TVC books.
I was having a very interesting debate in this post (which I recommend,, the author exposes a really cool theory) and I somehow thought about reverse-engineering the Talamasca plan's to publish Daniel's book, This is what I came up with:
Short version:
The Talamasca wanted to publish the book to force vampires to communicate, create connections among them, and spread information about all that Vampire life could entail (covens, powers...), with the end goal of creating a connective web of resources and empathy among vampires before Akasha happens.
Argument:
What the book does in the books (that was a weird sentence xD) was riled up and pissed off some vampires, like we have seen in 2x08,, But it eventually caused other vampires to publish their own stories, effectively creating a common culture among vampire-kind. In QOTD both the youngest and oldest of Vampires know who Lestat, Louis and Armand are.
So, for this post we are going to assume it played out exactly how the Talamasca wanted. But, why would the Talamasca want this to happen?
It is unclear how much the Talamasca knows about "the great conversion" and Akasha. But let's say they know something threatening is coming. Taking into account that the founders of the Talamasca are. a Vampire, a Spirit and a Ghost they could be worried about the survival of other supernatural beings. They would know Vampires are either extremely lonely and private, or live in very isolated covens with strict rules. This could be a way of culturally impacting their kind.
So if they publish this, humans will keep on going with their willful ignorance, but vampires will read it. It would become (in)famous for their kind, this has already happened in the show.
Eventually it will create community amongst vampires, but short term, at least it would provide information about other vampires, just think of Claudia in S01. And the access to this information will not be limited to what your maker or coven leader dictates. That there are other vampires out there, there are covens (which you should approach carefully), the abilities you may encounter, the obstacles and so on... Effectively breaking the isolation and fractured information. Books, stories and information have power, something the Academics of the Talamasca know.
And they would want this to happen before they actually need to join forces when the Akasha threat comes into play. So that would be their plan.
I do not think this is the case, though xD. And I wouldn't like it to be, I like the canon version of the events ^^. But it was fun.
