Beginner advice needed.

I'm a newbie at this and I recently started saving some money and don't want my money to sit in the bank.What basics should I research and know about stocks to invest in them. I know basics about mutual funds and all. Just want to invest in stocks. I just read about the company and see how it's performed over the years. Sources of websites where to research would also be helpful.
