Police won’t investigate
TLDR; Identity was stolen, I found the phone number of the person who opened a credit card in my name, and police refuse to investigate. —-
My identity was stolen last month. I’ve frozen my credit reports, placed fraud alerts, filed a FTC report, and contacted my banks and credit bureaus.
I looked over my credit report and found 2 phone numbers that were not associated with me. One was from a different state and one of the phone numbers came from the person who filed the hard inquiry and used my identity.
I also filed a police report, and provided this info. 3 weeks by, and I hadn’t heard anything, until I called for an update. I finally got an email from the detective days later, who didn’t investigate anything, and closed the report, because they couldn’t prove it happened in my city.
Are there any other steps I can take? This person still has my identity.
