Is it okay to do community medicine research topics even though I want to do IM residency?

So I'm in my 3rd year in my medical college in India. I have a couple of research ideas lined up and most of them I would do with the community medicine department. However I want to match in Internal medicine, and from what I've heard Community medicine is more similar to Family Medicine in the USA (I'm not sure of this though) so I'm not sure if the program directors will consider this research valuable of not if it's not strictly related to their field.

Is it not advisable to pursue these topics since they're more oriented to public health and community rather than purely medicine? (Topics are related to Knowledge Attitude and Practice studies relating to self medication, blood donation, hand hygiene etc). Tbh these topics are easy for me to work on and require no funding that's why I want to pursue them, and doing medicine topics is a little hard for me. So most of the research I plan to do is related to the community. I want to eventually do a couple medicine topics though

Would appreciate any insight especially from people who matched. Thanks!
