Is switching jobs a qualifying life event?

In CA. I currently work for a university research project that is being continued under a new nonprofit. As such I had to resign from my university post and accept a new position with the nonprofit. Currently my son and I are insured by the university insurance (great benefits). The new nonprofit is offering really bad insurance that my doctors don't take. My husband works for a university and we want to be on his benefits and waive enrollment in the bad insurance being offered to me so I don't have lapse in medical care with the doctors I like and trust. I'm currently in the enrollment period for the bad insurance being offered to me.

Do these changes count as a qualifying life event? Can my son and I sign on to my husband's insurance without issue?
