Hashimoto's + Depression Connection — any insight from those who have both?

Hello,

I was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's. After many years of suffering from Major Depressive Disorder and trying many medications, therapies, treatments (including transcranial magnetic stimulation, etc.) I'm now of course wondering how much of a connection there are between the two. The literature I've read does confirm that depression is a symptom of hashimoto's but of course, I'd love to hear from others here who have been diagnosed with both and have seen improvements in depression while treating hashimoto's.

I take a very holistic approach to my health and am following my functional medicine doctor's instructions to not only take Synthroid but also completely eliminate gluten. From my own research it looks like there are many other foods that can be triggers so I will happily avoid those, too, if necessary.

I'm a week into Synthroid and no gluten. I also understand the importance of stress management, exercise, etc. and am beginning to take my physical health very seriously with this diagnosis.

I would love to hear from anyone else here who has depression issues and see whether you noticed a difference in mood since treating hashimoto's. My mom seems to think that this has been my issue all along and now that I am being treated, my depression will go away. I would LOVE to believe this but of course I understand nothing is a silver bullet.

Thanks for reading.
