How to manage a patchy beard while lasering it off?

So I'm thinking about getting laser hair removal for my beard because I just want to be hair free, but I'm scared of spending a year of my life with a patchy freak beard. Of course I'm going to be keeping it clean shaven so the patchiness will be more like discoloration, but its still gonna be weird. Any tips on how to cope?
