Sky or Earth?

I am constantly thinking about how my 9th grade science teacher argued with me about Atlas. She said he held up the world and I said he held up the sky. Atlas was punished by Zeus to eternally hold up the heavens (which is the sky) as a result of his actions in the Titanomachy. In art, he’s holding a celestial globe. Not the earth. I was 13. She was in her 60’s. She argued with me in front of the entire class.
