Why are we so ignorant as a generation

I’m a younger Gen z, still in high school, and it honestly disgusts me how seemingly most people my age know literally nothing about the world. In September our school had a brief 9/11 moment of silence during the announcement, and the amount of kids who not only talked right through it, but also DIDN’T KNOW WHAT 9/11 WAS shocked me. How can we live in the era of information being readily available at the push of a button but seemingly be the most ignorant and years. Don’t even get me started on how most of my classmates didn’t know who Sadam Hussein was during my history class. I get that it happened before we were born but still it baffles me. I honestly considered posting this on r/fuckyouzoomer because i thought it might get more of an honest response but it will reach more people here. Thoughts?
