Hey, I’m not gay nor a Christian but I have been questioning Christianity lately and starting to somewhat believe in God.

I’ve had a lot of my questions answered by r/AskAChristian. However, I can’t ask this question there as I know there are a lot of homophobic Christians there who will just give useless homophobic answers.

Basically, I’m wondering what it is that allows Christians to be gay (edit because this was misunderstood as it wasn’t worded very well: what I mean is, why many people continue to be in homosexual relationships even though your religion tells you it’s wrong, or do some branches of your religion believe it’s okay?) Before I started looking deeper into Christianity I heard that it was just a misunderstanding of the Bible, but whenever I Google it, it comes up with mostly websites that say that homosexuality is sinful, with Bible quotes that cannot really be interpreted any other way, and a few websites that say it’s not actually a sin, however their explanations always seem to be a reach.

Am I missing something with the Bible evidence or is it just a matter of you repenting and hoping God will still accept you even if you continue to “sin”?

I’m hoping for a positive answer because I can’t believe in a religion that doesn’t allow people to love who they want to love. :)

Also sorry if anything comes off as rude I tried to word it the best that I can!!

ETA: also, I know the word “homosexual” is not in the Bible and wasn’t even a word back then but that doesn’t prove anything, as the Bible mentions sexual acts between men, or at least the translation (whether it’s accurate or not) seems to. So my question was more about if there are any better ways to interpret the lines such as “man shall not lie with man as he does with his wife” and if there’s more context to these lines - I plan to read more of the Bible at some point so that I actually have a better understanding of the context (as of course all the homophobic websites don’t really give any further context to the Bible quotes they state) but I would first like to hear answers from people who’ve already read it.

Also I saw this comment on a different sub, which sounds like a great explanation and is super interesting, if anyone else knows more about this please do share!

Another edit lol: just found out that some translations (which I’m assuming are more modern) actually do have the word “homosexuality” so I see now why people are bringing up the word homosexuality not originally being in the Bible.

It also seems like homophobic Christians intentionally skew Christianity in a more homophobic direction and try hard to demonise gay people, which shows that even if the Bible was against homosexuality, homophobes try pretty hard to make it seem worse than it actually is (plus the fact that they care more about homosexuality than sins that actually harm other people).
