How did you drop coffee?

I've been having gastritis for 1.5 years now and still haven't been able to drop coffee. It just feels like I couldn't get a long without it, especially with the energy dump that comes from gastritis. I only have it once a day after breakfast with some more food, but I feel like I shouldn't be drinking it at all. I need to function though, I have a responsibile job and can't be a vegetable because I'm trying to heal myself. What was your experience of dropping coffee from your diet?
