Eligibility for EU261 compensation SAS SK576 today

Hi all,

Writing this on behalf of my parents. Flight from GDN to CPH at 9:40am was cancelled and my parents were rebooked for the next day flight. The cancellation was due to the plane being unable to land due to freezing rain - or so they were told by the staff at the airport (the flight from CPH that was supposed to take passengers from GDN turned back to CPH). The thing is, other planes (of various sizes - both bigger, smaller and the same sizes) were landing and departing as usual or with delays, so it’s seems strange that the plane in question was unable to land.

Does anyone know if they are eligible for the EU261 claim and compensation for taxi and extra parking fees they will incur as a result of this cancellation (SAS has this on their website : DELAYED OR CANCELED FLIGHT CLAIM If you incurred any unexpected expenses because your flight was delayed or canceled, you may be reimbursed.)? I am unsure of this as they(the staff at the airport) are claiming weather as a cause of this cancellation, but as I’ve stated earlier, various planes of all sizes were landing and departing, so it seems unlikely for this to be the cause.
