Our offer expired/was ignored and my realtor told off the seller's agent

This was the first offer we made and second house we had looked at since starting the search this past month. We made the offer after going to an open house on Saturday. At that time, the seller's agent said that we were the first offer and they were waiting until after the open house on the following day to see if there were any other offers (the house received a lot of interest during the open house). Next day goes by and it was radio silence from then on until 10pm (after the offer expiration time), at which point the seller's agent messaged my realtor saying they went with another offer that had better pricing and terms, but that they would get back to us if that offer falls through.

My realtor responded to the agent saying they were unprofessional for not communicating about the other offer they were considering (it came in after ours) - "this is not how we, as real estate professionals, should conduct business." They told us that they weren't sure why the seller's agent hadn't came back asking for an escalation clause or other modifications.

  1. Would my realtor's reply prevent the seller from wanting to work with us in the future if the other offer fell through? We are still looking at other places and have moved on emotionally, but we were in love with this house.
  2. It feels like the seller's agent prevented us from negotiating or counter offering because they didn't even let us have a chance to modify our offer before accepting the other one. Is is normal to not get multiple offers to compete with each other?
  3. I feel like my realtor was correct for telling them off, but was it appropriate for them to do so?
