Protecting a polished academy ax
Polishing an accent was not part of my academy but I have always thought it is a cool tradition. I don't know if this is a universal tradition or not so for those that don't know what I'm talking about, a lot of academies around here will have you polish and ax head. They usually take one that is fairly banged up. You're not allowed to use any power tools.
15 years in and I have decided I want one hang on the wall in my home office that I'm setting up in my shop/barn. I've been working on it bit by bit and I'm getting close to finishing it. The problem I have is what to do to keep it from getting flash rust. It is carbon steel so it will easily rust. I've used clear coats on metals before but they look clear-coated not polished. I am wondering about maybe an automotive wax? I did a quick Google search and did not get any hits. I was thinking maybe someone on here has a polished carbon steel ax and know how to protect it. Thanks
