Hysterectomy at 43? Is it worth it?
I have a fibroid that has been causing me pain, issues sleeping, needing to urinate constantly. I can't have s*x or be properly seen by the gynecologist because the fibroid pushed my cervix to the left and kid of closed the entry. I had UFE last year but it seemed to change little. The doctor said that the next thing I could consider is hysterectomy because they can't take it out without uterus. Apparentlyit's lodged at the bottom right of my abdomen and in a position that would make it hard to take out safely. Since UFE last year my periods sort of stopped. I don't think it's menopause but who knows. I never had kids and I should think I won't have any now.
Should I have hysterectomy? It sounds appealing, some women have expressed great happiness following the operation, but I am worried that I am not seing potential issues. Will my cervix be back to normal shape? Will I be able to have s*x? What about hormone replacement therapy? Im in the UK and wondering if NHS cares how they leave things behind (as in do they make sure things work fine anatomy wise after or is it considered an extra unnecessary thing NHS does not have funding for) Help me understand the pros and cons of hysterectomy, please.
