On my own, doing better now
I hired a small agency to help me run my meta campaigns. For creative, I’m working with an old friend who was the brand owner for a billion dollar brand. With the agency, I was getting okay performance. 1.3-1.7 roas was my typical range. Including the agency costs, that was either break even or slightly losing money.
Evidently I triggered the algorithm at Facebook and got assigned a human being. They reviewed my campaigns and as politely as possible pointed out that the way everything was configured, I was basically just saturating the same small audience with different ads that were pretty similar.
So, I fired my agency and went DIY. I turned off all of their stuff, and set up a single advantage shopping campaign with 3 different ads. I went broad, and kept the budget modest. I reviewed performance every few days, and tweaked a few things here and there after learning limited showed up. Nothing major.
That was about a month ago. As of today, my 30 day averages are CPA $18, 3.6 ROAS, CPC $0.58. I’m now profitable and scaling.
I think the moral of my story is that you need to understand the ad platform yourself and keep it very simple until you understand the dynamics of your campaigns.
