Abyssal Lurkers Community Update – January 2025

Hello friends, CJ here with an update on the Abyssal Lurkers community! For those unfamiliar, we’re a player-run group focused on providing reliable advice for navigating the Abyss and a space for learning and theorycrafting. Our advice doesn’t guarantee safe or easy Abyss runs but consolidates insights from years of experience across a wide range of hulls. While the Abyss remains our core focus, we also have a channel in our Discord dedicated to helping new pilots with any questions about EVE Online.

Discord In Game Channel Name: Abyssal Lurkers

Recently, I revamped our Discord to streamline discussions by consolidating similar topics and archiving outdated channels. We shifted from hull-specific discussions to weapon system categories for cruisers, with dedicated spaces for:

Drone Cruisers (e.g., Gila, Ishtar)

Missile Cruisers (e.g., Cerb, Sac, Muninn)

Turret Cruisers (e.g., Vaga, occasional Zealot mentions)

We also maintained the following broad category fitting channels for the Abyss:

Low-tier starter cruisers

Low-tier solo frigates and destroyers

Multi-boxed frigates

Multi-boxed destroyers

Additionally, I’m testing a LLM + Retrieval Augment Generation setup in Discord and on my Abyssal resources site to provide a way for pilots to ask questions about the Abyss. We maintain the community FAQ but there’s so much info it can be a bit overwhelming. Feel free to test this out. I’m not sold on it yet (it’s a monthly fee so it needs to be a slam dunk for me to keep with it).

Finally, below are two common questions and answers regarding the Abyss as well as resources developed by the community.

What is the Abyss? The Abyss is an instanced PvE environment where players have 20 minutes to complete three rooms filled with NPCs, environmental effects, and loot. The main loot comes from the Bioadaptive cache near the gate, with additional loot nodes available. There are five weather types and seven difficulty tiers, with the weather impacting both players and NPCs. To progress, players must defeat all NPCs in each room to unlock the gate to the next.

Is this the best isk/h in the game? Not necessarily—isk/h varies based on pilot skill, investment, and experience. For new pilots, the Abyss offers consistent income while learning the basics. A T1 frigate averaging 5-minute runs without losses can conservatively earn around 60m isk/h. That said, I encourage all pilots, especially newcomers, to explore New Eden’s many opportunities. The Abyss is just a small part of the universe. Completing Career Missions and Air Goals first can provide a solid foundation before focusing on isk grinding.

Common Resources (Plenty more found in the community): Abyssal Resources Streamlit App:. I’m trialing the chatbot here as well as in Discord. Here you can also find the FAQ, Room Overview and Tips, Abyss Enemy Database (all the relevant stats in a table), Missile Damage Calculator, and some common fits we promote. Abyss Tracker: - Here players can submit their run information to track progress. It’s also useful to gauge median rewards per run. This is another common question that is answered by the graph front and center on the main page.

Thanks, and see you in space!
