Road trips are…well. You decide.

Alright, brace yourselves. I have a 24’ Chevy Equinox 2LT AWD. I took a trip from Detroit to Cincinnati and our 8 hour trip added on 4 hours of charging. Totaling 12 hours of chaos. The charge cost ended up being around 122$ or maybe more, I’m afraid to look, (gas would have been 50$ tops with our other vehicle) because of the EA charger we used at a Target in Hilliard, OH. Also had issues with one of the chargers on the way home being at a dealership (after hours) with no other options or warnings; 3/4 we’re out of order and needed an employee badge. Ended up calling the maintenance number and starting the session remotely. HOWEVER, the route mapping wanted me to charge there to 60% and then drive 15% down to 45% and then charge for 1.5 hours at a slow charger rather than just doing the extra 10min at the fast charger with range to make it home at 7%. It was about 24 F out and we were moving around 65-70 with annoying gusts of wind around 24mph. I know an EV will add extra charge time, the only thing is that when you calculate road trips on sites such as fuel economy.gov they assume you’re charging at average electricity costs. That’s never the case for a fast/super fast or even a level 2 charger (see pic). We will never take this guy on a road trip again. Looooove it around town and within 100 miles from home or so. Just wanted to let everyone know the realities of an EV as I was very optimistic when I should have been more apprehensive. Not everyone will agree but, here we are. Ask any questions I’m happy to answer.
