Attacking instead of dodging

Hello , Im new at Elden Ring , and Im not sure what Im doing wrong , but whenever I jump power attack ,and than press the dodge button ONCE , no spam or anything , it hits the enemy again instead of dodging , my only inputs are jump , power attack dodge , and it doesnt do it , I keep dying and getting hit when i wanna dodge
