The reason Shotguns Suck in pve
Its not because of their poor range, while the most recent buff definently helped, it didnt do much to make them viable, they just simply suck at their job, which i believe is to be able to chunk down mvp targets, in relatively quick manor, and the mvp targets i am referring to are, captain level yellow bars, minibosses, and champions. ive always felt that was the intended purpose and best use of a shotgun in pve.
its the kind of weapon you should use when you have a straight monster primary weapon for ad clear, things like sunshot, graviton lance, nechrocasm, these weapons, are top tier at clearing out mobs of fodder ads, but fall pretty hard the second they come in contact with a high health yellow bar or a champion, so thats when shotguns should be used and should be at their best.
but they arent, i feel this is because they simply dont have enough damage to make it worth the risk, i remember the last time i used a shotgun consistently in pve, was season 10, perfect paradox, thought that weapon was fucking amazing and the best special weapon in the game, until new shinier and more fun things came along that did the exact same thing but much better, double fire gls, blindind gls, fusions, rocket sidearms, all provide similar enough to damage to high health targets, while offering significantly better range, ad clear, and saftey, they have been power crept out of relevancy aside, from one two much damage strats and hot swaps during boss dps
i think the best way to make them viable, is to just give them a massive damage buff against champs, yellow bars, and miniboss, if im in a gm, or master lost sector, i should be able to get in close and chunk down a champion to at least finisher health pretty quickly, their damage has to be strong enough to warrant the risk.
at least thats what i feel is holding shotguns back.
