Bone loss and implant

Hi, I wanted to ask a dumb question. Soon the tooth pointed by the red arrow will be extracted to insert some implants but they told my mum that they can't replace it because there is too much bone loss. Is it true? Is there nothing that can be done? Not even in the future?
