If you are already familiar with the Prediction Series, most of the following points won't come as a surprise. If this is the case, I suggest heading over to the "New for 2025" section to see what's different for this year!
The Perfect Nine Prediction Series is a year-long predictions tournament. All PDC televised majors will count towards the Prediction Series.
To enter, you select between 4-6 players from "buckets" - e.g. one player seeded 1-8, one player seeded 9-16, etc. The number of selections you need to make will depend on the number of players in the tournament.
Your selections are made before the start of each tournament. This is unlike a "fantasy" league where you are buying/selling players into your team over the course of the year - at each different tournament, you are free to pick whoever you want.
Every match won by one of your selections is worth a point!
Your points will carry over from event to event to the overall leaderboard which will tally up for the whole year. However, we will of course crown event champions during the year too.
Last year, the 11 events were...
Masters, UK Open, Premier League, World Cup, World Matchplay, World Series Finals, Grand Prix, European Championship, Grand Slam, Players Championship Finals and the World Championship
The Premier League is unique in that it will consist of 16 weekly tournaments before a Finals Night. You will need to make your selection each week to score points. Winning 1 Premier League week is not equal to winning an event: the Premier League as a whole is 1 event with 1 winner.
I intend to post the Prediction Series thread for a tournament around a week before that tournament begins. Obviously, entries will close when the first match of the tournament is played. All picks will be published ASAP after a tournament starts for transparency's sake.
Premier League Finals Night, the World Matchplay and the World Championship are all double points events!
To help increase the importance of the smaller majors such as the Masters and the World Series Finals, all final and semi-final matches are worth 2 points for a win instead of 1. In events where the points are already doubled, like the World Matchplay, they remain worth 2 points.
New for 2025
1) Partnership with Perfect Nine
Until now, we have never been able to officially give away prizes to Prediction Series winners. We are excited to announce that this changes in 2025, as we partner up with Perfect Nine! This darts company has interacted with the members of our subreddit a lot over the years (u/PerfectNineDarts) and has agreed to help us with this year's Prediction Series! This also means that we have prizes to hand out, both for winners of events and for the overall winner of the 2025 Perfect Nine Prediction Series:
- Prize of 3 sets of Perfect Nine Flights for every Event winner
- Prize of 1 set of Perfect Nine Darts + 10 sets of Perfect Nine Flights for the Season winner
To be eligible to win prizes, you must leave a valid Reddit username in the entry forms. Make sure to not use a throwaway account, as you will be contacted via Reddit for anything related to the Prediction Series. This partnership also means that we can only have 1 champion per event and 1 season champion, meaning that the tiebreaker criteria for 2025 will be sharpened (see point 3 below).
2) Two points for every 9-darter hit
To celebrate the first edition of the Perfect Nine Prediction Series, you will now earn 2 points for a 9-darter that one of your picks hits (instead of just 1). This holds for every event.
3) New, clarified, tiebreaker criteria
Since there can only be one winner per event and one for the season, these tiebreaker criteria have expanded and have become more detailed. I do not suggest reading them unless you are tied for the win and you are interested in the final result.
The tiebreaker criteria for the 2025 events (excluding the Premier League) are as such:
- The winner will always be the player with the most points (the following tiebreaker criteria apply only to players who have the most points, albeit shared)
- If players are tied for an event then the winner is the one who selected the champion
- If all or none of the tied players selected the champion, then the winner is the one who selected the losing finalist
- If all or none of the tied players selected the losing finalist, then the winner is the one who selected the most losing semi-finalists
- This backwards process continues until the players can be separated
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player who, among their unique selections, threw the highest single-match average (in this case, a unique selection is a pick who has not been selected by every player who is ranked number 1)
- If the tied players have selected the exact same picks or still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player that was closest to the correct answer to the tiebreaker question, which will be included in the entry forms for all events: "What will be the highest three-dart match average (by any single player) of the tournament?"
The tiebreaker criteria for the 2025 Premier League are as such:
- The winner will always be the player with the most points (the following tiebreaker criteria apply only to players who have the most points, albeit shared)
- If players are tied then the winner is the one who selected the champion for Finals Night
- If none of the tied players selected the champion, then the winner is the one who selected the losing finalist for Finals Night
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player who participated in the most weekly events
- If multiple players have participated in the most weekly events, the winner shall be the player who, among these players, has had the most perfect picks (a perfect pick means picking the weekly winner)
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player that was closest to the correct answer to the tiebreaker question, which will be included in the entry form for Finals Night: "What will be the highest three-dart match average (by any single player) of Finals Night?"
The tiebreaker criteria for the 2025 overall standings are as such:
- The winner will always be the player with the most points (the following tiebreaker criteria apply only to players who have the most points, albeit shared)
- If players are tied then the winner shall be the player who participated in the most events (this includes the weekly Premier League events)
- If multiple players have participated in the most events, the winner shall be the player who, among these players, has had the most event wins
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player who ended with the most points for the World Championship event
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player who ended with the most points for the World Matchplay event
- If the players still cannot be split, the winner shall be the player that was closest to the correct answer to the tiebreaker question for the World Championship, which will be included in the entry form: "What will be the highest three-dart match average (by any single player) of the tournament?"
If these criteria do not result in 1 winner for every event and 1 season winner, I will get in contact with the shared winners to come up with a fair solution.
That's it for the rulebook this year! I hope you enjoy competing in the fifth season of the Prediction Series. Please leave any questions or remarks you might have in the comments below!
