Help me understand Tim Drake

I started reading comics around when the new52 kicked off, I read some Teen Titans but it never stuck with me, although to be fair I've heard it's an awful book that doesn't do anyone justice.

A lot of people here seem to include him as among their favourite batboy. I don't really understand his appeal, to me he just kinda seems a bit boring, a bit too straighty 180 for me, like what you see is what you get.

So someone please enlighten my ignorant ass, I want to understand him! Thanks!
