Just started working construction, any tips for preventing my hands from doing this?

Technically not construction, but road work, I use shovels, tamping bars, lift big metal pieces, don’t care about calluses, but how do I stop my skin from peeling off my fingers? I wear gloves all day. I can already see all the soft hand jokes coming
