Intraday Power Trading Career Prospects

Hello everyone! I've been reading on this sub for a while now and have a question. I have seen a similar question here before, but not exactly the same.

I have a degree in a quantitative discipline and I am looking to switch my career from Software to Commodities/Energy. For this reason I am currently applying to jobs and have seen many Intraday Trader positions. I find this interesting, but my long term aspiration is to work with Physical Commodities and long-term contracts as I find the personal side and networking aspect of the industry particularly appealing. On the other hand, I feel like trading intraday would allow me to learn a lot about the financial instruments involved in the energy trade and I don't mind doing that for a few years if it is valuable learning. Now on to my question:

How good are my chances to move from intraday trading to physical trading of commodities? Is this a common career path?

What are the typical career progressions for intraday traders? As it is a shift system, it is pretty clear to me that I won't want to do it in the long-term.

Thank you all for your time!
