Will __ be censored on Red/RedNote/Xiaohongshu?

it depends, 8964 Tiananmen Square? absolutely. winnie the pooh? not so sure, since the censorship involves in a lot of speculation (by AI or human).

TBH I don't get it why people keep trying to test if censorship exists in China by asking Chinese LLMs or posting on Chinese platforms with regard to "sensitive topics", I thought it has been crystal clear that there is heavy censorship in China, and China the regime is a dictatorship. Biden said it, and I agree with him based on my experience and knowledge.

If your point is to flaunt that you have more freedom and human rights, then it makes sense but seems less decent.

speaking of the platform where "Tiktok refugees" flooded in, I've always thought its English name is Red, while many "Chinese-history savvy" foreigners prefer the name "little red book", since it's the name of Mao's collection of quotations, also reminds people of Mao's ear, notably cultural revolution. but I doubt if it's really what it intends to be, I strongly doubt the majority of the domestic users know the "anecdote".

TBH having real-time interaction with foreigners is pretty new for the majority of Chinese netizens -- only a small fraction of them can afford to study abroad, and as I've emphasized several times, the amount of Chinese being able to bypass the GFW is less than 10%, and they need to pay for the "extra" access, which makes chitchat with foreigners less appealing to them compared to more practical stuff, also, not all of them can communicate in English easily.

Tim Walz once said he was treated like king when he was in China, I'm not very proud of this, but at least I'd say many Chinese are not hostile towards foreigners intrinsically, no matter how hard the government tries.

speaking of the government, it actually has been trying pretty hard to limit uncontrolled interaction between people from China and foreign countries, so it's a bit bizarre that such emergent interactions are not blocked, yet. but I'm not very optimistic about it, the GFW is costly and exists for a reason, it doesn't have to block 100% of the traffic, but the gov needs it to block the mass.

lastly, no matter what your intent of this adventure is, no matter how transient this journey will be, and no matter how it will end up, have fun!
