How did the Jesuits become super liberal?

I am new to Catholicism , and my first parish was Jesuit and very liberal and went away from church doctrine alot. I recently went to a Dominican order church today was very rooted in rules and what we as catholics must follow. So I am wondering are Jesuit’s allowed to devate from core rules and principles? If do why do they get a free break the rules card?
