Any advice for first time owner?

Well the title really kinda says it but for more context I'm thinking about going down to my local adoption center and getting a cat, I'm not sure if I will or won't yet but I want to get as much info as I can.

How do I prepare my home for a cat?

What brand of food do you suggest?

Types of toys?

How often do you really need to bathe your cat and what products do you use?

I'm sure I could find answers on like YouTube but I'd rather just hear from people that have experience owning a cat so honestly just any and all advice is welcome.
