Genetic Disorders and Marriage

Hi guys, I’m [M28] just curious. Have anyone of you considered the genetic illnesses of your partner’s family before you decide to settle down?

I know some of you might find this ‘taboo’ kasi sabi nga nila “as long as you love someone” and “di naman nila pinili yon”.

But as someone who wants to have kids, and as a partner who have experienced the difficulties of their inherited mental and physical diseases, do you think I’m an asshole for thinking about how it would affect our future kids?

For context my partner have Asthma, Bipolar disorder, Generalized Anxiety, among a lot of other illnesses. She also tried to take her own life a lot of times, but good thing I’m always by her side. Their family also has a lot of transmissible illnesses, which have proven to genetically strong. They have history of diabetes, mental illnesses, gastrointestinal disorders, and cancer between generations.

What do you think? Am I justified in thinking about it? Thanks!
