Help! Stranded Away from Home

Hey everyone, I’m coming to the subreddit feeling incredibly stuck and frustrated. At this point I have called everyone I could possibly think of to help me resolve my issue. Everyone I call blames other institutions and no one seems willing to help.

I am a Canadian citizen and I came back to Canada (I have been living in the states) to complete my E2 investor Visa interview. I completed that interview Nov 7 and was immediately approved for immigration back to the states. My passport was confiscated so the Visa documentation could be placed into it and I patiently awaited the US Embassy to mail out my passport through Canada post.

My passport was approved Nov 14 and given to Canada post that afternoon with an initial delivery date of Nov 15 set. The same day the strike occurred.

After calling Canada Post, the union, the embassy, Service Canada, and a few others, I have been told that the passport is currently sitting in the Toronto Canada Post depot. There is no way for me even to go in person and get the passport, no one willing to help, and I am absolutely stuck.

I have my entire life back home in America, work, my dog, and a new home. I have no means of getting home because my passport is being held by Canada Post. I cannot get an emergency passport because that will remove my Visa I have spent a year and a lot of money procuring. When I called the union they initially actively tried to prevent helping me. The first dispatcher yelled at me angrily saying she didn’t know anything and refused to give me the number of the local union in Toronto. She kept repeating, “we have rights! I don’t know anything I can’t help you.” After 10 minutes she finally gave me the number to the Toronto Union rep after I reminded her she must know that number because it was her job to connect people to local union reps (according to the website that was the role of this phone number). She begrudgingly gave it to me and I spoke to the Toronto union. The rep there initially didn’t want to help until I outlined my unique predicament and how stuck I am. She called a few local workers but they refused to offer any solution to getting my passport, blamed Canada Post Corp saying they have the keys to the depot and refused to give me any follow up phone number. I’ve even called the union president but alas no response.

I’ve contacted multiple media members to see if they are interested in my story to get help. Nothing. I’m hoping here might have some thoughts, ideas, or connections to someone who might even be able to help me get into the depot to find my passport so i can get home to my family.
