Bootleg Navigation SD Cards on Amazon
I bought one of those bootleg Navigation SD cards from Amazon. Not for the GPS—I have Apple Maps for that. I just wanted the street signs in the Heads-Up Display. I have to say, it was $35 well-spent. Speed limit signs, stop signs, etc., show up in the HUD and next to the speedometer on the dashboard. It also puts a red mark on the speedometer indicating the speed limit. A small detail, but appreciated.
The Mazda GPS isn't bad, but I'll stick with Apple Maps for traffic and speed check alerts. It's also much easier to enter a destination in Apple Maps because I can use voice to say the destination. Much to my surprise, there seems to be no way to use the Mazda voice recognition while connected to Apple CarPlay. If I'm wrong, please let me know.
All in all, I recommend getting a cheap Navigation SD card on Amazon, if only for the street sign indicators. An added bonus is that the Mazda GPS will work in places with no cellular signal.
