Why are there no good simulators?

As a student, and also in the work force with Cnc, why are there no good simulators for mill or lathe? I feel like that should be vital for proofing a program and practicing. But every simulator I have found is really poorly designed (like the ones for iphone) or they just are a true simulation of the machine while it’s cutting material. What am i missing?
