Is the College Football Playoff committee REALLY a better way to select the "best" teams than the old BCS formula?

I think the main issue of the BCS was how broken the system surrounding it was, not the actual computer rankings themselves. It was also disproportionately weighted towards the AP and Coaches polls. Since technology has only improved since the BCS was founded, wouldn't it make more sense to rely on objective statistics rather than a playoff committee without a clear selection criteria that's also prone to outside influence?

Here's the BCS formula:
COMPUTER:
Six rankings, highest and lowest scores are dropped
Rankings are averaged

POLLS:
AP and Coaches Poll are equally weighted based off of the number of possible votes that a team received.

The BCS score was calculated using 2/3 of the score weighted for the human polls and 1/3 of the score weighted for computer polls.

Here's what the end of season BCS rankings currently look like as of December 8th

In an ideal scenario, I'd weight the human rankings and computer rankings evenly.
