Brazilian and Canada

Hi everybody, Wondering if you could help me out with something. So I will be marrying my guy this Summer but I want him to meet my mother before. He is concerned about not being a viable candidate because of his low savings and the even lower strength of the reals. He will go on my passes so flight is covered. He just has to prove he has a return ticket and money to spend in Canada. The first time he is coming here will be the month we are getting married. Should we try for a spousal visa?
