Will the Bolt be sufficient for my purposes?
I've always been super interested in the Bolt. My primary use case will be driving to a town about 35 miles away to do rideshare work (food and Walmart deliveries).
We live in the mountains so roads aren't flat (the trip is a roller coaster) but the town is mostly flat. Most of the daily miles will come from city driving but of course the trip there and back I average probably around 45mph. Right now it's super cold averaging about 20F everyday.
I've read you can lose as much as 30% or more making the range about 175 miles. Is this accurate you think or would I see a bigger hit? Looking at a base trim so no heated seats or steering wheel - I'd be running the heater for sure.
If I average $2/mile in earnings then I would drive about 100 miles to make $200. I usually stop after that or sometimes don't even go that far but that would be basically the upper limit I think.
In the summertime I don't have much worry but this weather can last for 3-4 months.
There's a Tesla supercharger I can use which is well located but another cheaper charger more out of the way. The rate is $0.47/kwh at the Tesla charger.
So I definitely want to get an EV but I'm not sure if I'd be better off getting a Tesla for the longer range and faster charging should I need it in my use case. If I lived in the town already I'd get the Bolt 100% since I don't care about the extra features of the Tesla. Both are relatively cheap these days on the used market, but the Model 3 generally has a 25-35% premium of course.
