With all this talk about half staff versus full staff, Is there a respectful medium?

Edit: I guess I should have said that I live in a neighborhood with somebody who has been flying their flag at full staff before and since Jimmy Carter passed. We don't tend to get along but I am not trying to give reason to escalate frustrations.

I've been thinking about just taking my flag down completely so that I don't aggravate people on either side but am still respectful of flag code. Does this seem like the best way to handle what is a very disrespectful order from our governor?
